“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14)
Today, let’s go to Bethlehem with the shepherds who were told, “there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
If you have any doubt of who He is, please look up the Scriptures.
Savior: A Savior that frees us from all evil and danger, the Author of perpetual salvation for those He saves.
Christ: The Greek word for Messiah is “Christ”. He’s God’s promised “anointed one”, who fulfills all the prophesies of God’s One-and-only, existing in eternity, Priest, Prophet and King. Scholars cite more than 300 specific Messiah prophesies fulfilled by Jesus.
Lord: Scripture identifies Him as the Son of God and God at the same time. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Other Scriptures that describe Him as God include Romans 9:5; Philippians 2:5-6; Colossians 1:16-17, 2:9-10; 1 Timothy 6:15-16; Hebrews 1:8, 13:8; Revelation 1:8,17, 2:8, 17:14, 19:16, 21:6, 22:13). Jesus Christ identified Himself as the great I AM (John 6:35, 8:12, 10:7, 10:11, 11:25, 14:6, 15:1), and He fulfilled many prophesies of Jehovah (or Yahweh). For example, the Apostle Paul, in Romans 10:13, identifies Jesus Christ as fulfilling Joel 2:32: “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved”.
Jesus Christ is our Lord and our God, and yet our brother and friend. Come let us adore Him. Immanuel, God with us in our nature, in our sorrow, in our lifework, in our punishment, in our grave, and now with us, in resurrection, ascension, triumph, and the hope of eternal bliss.
